The Smith Activities Center is sponsored by the Village of Skokie, and all seniors and citizens of Skokie are invited to participate in scheduled activities. Activity schedules are printed monthly in the Village newsletter NewSkokie and are available for viewing on the Village's Cable TV Channel. There is no membership fee. Activities include: Needlework, Chair Exercise, Chess, Conversational German Group, Conversational Yiddish, Humanities, Low Vision Group, Hearing Loss Support Group, Men's Discussion Group, Women’s Discussion Group, News & Views, Stamp Club, Woodcarving Classes and much more. Special events and activities are planned throughout the year.

FIRST MONDAY OF EACH MONTH TABLE GAMES FREE—Just reserve your table 1:30 p.m.;Call to confirm schedule. Call us to set up a table for you and your group and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with your friends playing a game of your choice.
MONDAYS & THURSDAYS BRIGHT IDEAS ESL - 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. – Free Registration Required. A new conversational English class developed for older individuals who are refugees and asylees and want to integrate smoothly into the community. Registration is required for this program.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2008 SALUTE TO LABOR DAY 12:00 p.m. – lunch – Fee: $6.00 DRESS PATRIOTIC. Join us for an after Labor Day celebration featuring a lunch of pizza, salad and dessert. The fee is $6.00 (note new fee) and due at time of registration. Entertainment will be provided by North Shore Senior Center Stompers Band.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2008 SECRETARY OF STATE 10.00 – 2:00—First-come, first-serve. The Secretary of State will use our facilities to issue ID cards (over 65 is free), and renew driver’s licenses for those under the age of 75 with a clean driving record. Numbers will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2008 PRE-HALLOWEEN HOTDOG FEAST 12:00 p.m. – Fee: $4.00 Join us at 12:00 for a hotdog lunch and entertainment TBA.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2008 ANNUAL MEN AND WOMEN GROUP TALKATHON 1:30 p.m. Bring or send your ideas for subjects to discuss at our 2nd Annual Talkathon. Coffee and treats will be provided. So start getting your subject matters for discussion together now!
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 2008 ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER 12:00 p.m., Fee: $12.00 Join us for our annual Thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings. Entertainment will feature the Savoy Trio at 1:00 p.m.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 29, 2008 ANNUAL NEW YEAR’S PARTY 12:00 p.m.; Fee: $12.00 We are again featuring our annual New Year’s Party with a great lunch, menu TBA. The Chicago Swedish Male Chorus will perform at 1:00 p.m.
